Alseny "Michel" Diallo is a master djembe player known as a "djembefola" and incredible singer, composer and arranger from Guinea West Africa. Diallo has performed with the likes of master djembefola Mamady Keita multiple Juno award winner Alpha Yaya Diallo and Yamoussa Bangoura, artistic director of the celebrated acrobatic drum and dance troupe Kalabanté. Diallo is well respected nationally and has been in the African music scene for over 20 years.
Diallo has a gift for teaching and sharing the rhythms of his culture and is considered one of the best djembe players in Canada. Alseny Diallo has been the lead soloist djembe player for various ballets since the age of fifteen. Some of the groups he led were Le Ballet Taille, Les Ballet Africain Junior, Le Ballet Kokuri, Le Tempo and L’Oiseau Blanc. In 1997 Alseny participated in a Guinean national annual competition, Festi Kalum, where their ballet received a nationally-accredited diploma. In 2004 Le Ballet Taille took part in La Tour Federale, a governement funded collaborative project bringing together ten different established ballets from Guinea. In Canada for eight years now, his traditional drum and dance group Kikeyambay has performed all across BC sharing the traditional music and dance of Guinea West Africa through story telling, songs, music and dance. Kikeyambay Traditional Drum and Dance is for hire for theater shows, private parties, school performances, cultural events or through ArtStarts working with schools.
